We wanted to welcome & introducing Coach Bryan Smith:

How did you get into coaching?

I started coaching in 2007 as the freshman boys coach at Somerville HS. I have been the varsity coach there since 2011. I coached at Stronghold Soccer Club for 4 years, and am now taking on the Strikers for BTSC. I also am the Somerville HS assistant girls basketball coach.
What brought you to BTSC?
My step-daughter plays on the Strikers. I have watched those girls grow and develop over the past few years, and as they were in need of a new coach I jumped at the opportunity.
What current or former coach/manager (of any sport) do you admire and why?
Coach K, former Duke University Basketball coach. He has high expectations and demands for his players and teams, but focuses on the player-coach relationship to build the trust that can handle the demands.
What is the best part of coaching?
2 things have always driven me in coaching. 1. To develop my players into quality people more than just soccer players, and help them grow and learn the many life lessons and skills that being an athlete can teach people. 2. I love building relationships with players to help get them to achieve levels higher than they ever thought they could reach, and seeing the joy they experience when they find those breakthroughs.
What do you want your players to know about you?
I will push my players, and can be demanding, but it is all trying to get them to achieve great things. I feel that I am a player's coach and building that player-coach relationship is important for the success of the individual as well as the team.
